HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT -- The New School, Fayetteville, AR

Purpose of the Position
The Head of Development is responsible for planning and implementing strategies to promote the advancement and sustainability of The New School. The Head of Development works closely with the Head of School, members of the Board of Directors, Program Directors and staff to increase the financial support for the school and its programs.

Job Responsibilities
FUNDRAISING
• Develop, direct and implement a strategic plan for the school’s fundraising and development efforts
Work with the Board to develop a comprehensive and innovative plan for all fundraising activities to be carried out in the    appropriate timeframes
• Implement strategies to secure major gifts for the school
• Identify, cultivate and solicit individuals for major gifts
• Manage research to identify major gifts prospects
• Secure gifts for the school’s endowment and capital needs
• Maintain information and materials for planned giving opportunities
• Execute and manage an Annual Fund Drive
• Solicit gifts from corporations with offices in the NW Arkansas area
• Research prospects for the submission of foundation grants

DEVELOPMENT
• Help promote the school through various public relations efforts to both the internal and external markets
• Seek opportunities to promote the school to other civic groups, other non-profit organizations, and philanthropic foundations
• Oversee and support the Development & Communications Assistant in fundraising activities and special events
• Secure Corporate Sponsorships and assure the fulfillment of the Sponsorship Benefits Packages
• Manage donor relations, recognition and acknowledgement programs.
• Maintain records in the GiftWorks data base
• Provide letters of thanks and appropriate tax documentation
• Provide contributors’ information to recognize and thank donors
• Prepare reports of activities and outcomes for the Board of Directors
• Assist the Head of Marketing and Communications in developing, implementing and maintaining a consistent marketing image for the school.
• Develop and maintain relationships with the parents to encourage volunteer participation and annual giving.
• Work with board committee chairs to schedule meetings and promote the work of each committee: Campaign Committee, Development Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Committee of Volunteerism
