The following Arkansas legislation pertains to Curriculum. 1. 6-16-104. Instruction in English--The basic language of instruction in all schools of the state, including private schools, is the English language only. 2. 6-16-143. CPR Training / Graduation Requirement – requires public school students in grades 9-12 to be trained in the psychomotor skills needed for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before graduating from high school. This can be incorporated into the Health curriculum. CPR Certification is not required, only training. This is an ANSAA graduation requirement. 3. 6-16-147. Computer Science Offering & 6-16-1406. Digital Learning Course / Graduation Requirement -requires each public high school and charter school to offer a course in computer science in which digital learning is the primary or supplementary method of instruction. The digital learning instruction is an ANSAA graduation requirement, however, the computer science course is NOT required for nonpublic schools. The required course can fall into one of the following categories:
Blended Learning-- education in which instruction and content are delivered through supervised instruction in a classroom and online delivery of instruction with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace.
Digital Learning-- a digital technology or internet-based educational delivery model that does not rely exclusively on compressed interactive video (CIV). Digital learning includes online and blended learning. If a school is using outside providers, they must be from the approved provider list provided by ADE.
Online Learning-- is education in which instruction and content are delivered primarily over the Internet. The term does not include print-based correspondence education, broadcast television or radio, videocassettes, compact disks and stand-alone educational software programs that do not have a significant Internet-based.
4. 6-16-135. Personal and family finance standards. requires public school students to be trained in personal and family finance before graduating from high school. This can be incorporated into the Economics curriculum. This is an ANSAA graduation requirement.
5. 6-47-404 and 6-47-405. Distance Learning Participation – Allows students enrolled in private schools to participate in distance learning courses provided that conditions for participation are met. A student may take all course virtually though a public school district or open enrollment charter school.
