The Catholic school teacher must:
- understand and accept the role of the school as unique pastoral, education agency of the Church.
- understand and be willing to implement the philosophy and goals of the school.
- be willing to attend liturgies and prayer experiences that are celebrated for faculty growth and for the total school community.
- be willing to participate in sessions for the faculty intended for professional and spiritual growth.
- understand the importance of integrating the curriculum with the Gospel values espoused by the Church and will to do so in his/her subject area.
- serve as a positive role model for students by exemplifying a commitment to Catholic education and values.
- plan and implement engaging lessons that accommodate diverse learners and promote academic excellence
- establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- maintain and organize welcoming and safe classroom environment
- utilize a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
- identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet students' differentiated needs
- instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- utilize technology to support instruction
- observe and evaluate student's performance and development
- assign and grade class work, homework, and tests
- provide feedback on assignments and evaluations
- encourage and monitor the progress of students
- maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
- update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, diocesan policies, and school regulations
- manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- uphold and enforce school policies and procedures
- participate in faculty and parent meetings
- communicate information regularly to parents regarding student progress and student needs including emotional well-being
- attend professional development opportunities to stay current in subject area, teaching resources and methods
- know and implement curriculum standards as outlined in the In Spirit and Truth Curriculum Guide
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Single subject teaching credential or license if teaching a specialized subject
- State license or working toward licensure
