The school is a ministry of First Baptist Church Centerton. The position of School Counselor works mostly with middle grades through high school, but is also involved with the lower grades as needed. This position reports to the secondary principal, but works with the entire administrative team to provide support for our students, teachers and families. As a small Christian school, we expect our employees to be flexible and help in other areas as needs arise and time is available. For example, at times our school counselors have taught a class and/or helped with various school activities, and assisted with our Learning Enrichment Center. Some of the primary duties would include:
Provide biblically based counseling to individuals and groups of students on academic, social, personal, and spiritual issues.
Develop and implement counseling programs that align with Christian values and teachings.
Assist students in setting academic and personal goals and developing plans to achieve them.
Identify issues affecting students’ academic performance and suggest interventions.
Facilitate conflict resolution among students and promote a positive and respectful school environment.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support students’ well-being and success.
Provide spiritual guidance and mentorship based on Christian principles.
Plan and lead workshops on topics such as stress management, bullying, and college preparation.
Maintain confidential records of students’ progress and counseling sessions.
Coordinate with local community resources and services to support students and families.
Stay up-to-date with educational and counseling trends and participate in professional development opportunities that align with biblically based counseling.
